'There Are No Excuses': Morgan Wallen Issues Desperate Apology After Shouting Racial Slur, Suffers Loss Of Country Radio Play

Country star Morgan Wallen seems to be canceled (literally) after a video captured him using a racial slur over the weekend — and it looks like an apology just won't do.

Wallen's music has been yanked from several country music radio stations after a clip surfaced of him from Sunday, January 31, coming home after a night out with friends in Nashville. 

One of Wallen's neighbors began recording the group arriving back at his house being extremely loud and rowdy in the middle of the night.

The "Whiskey Glasses" singer can be heard shouting, "Take care of this "p****-ass motherf**ker" to his friends before adding: "Take care of this p****-ass n*****."

Following the video, Wallen issued a statement on Tuesday night to express his remorse after the incident. "I'm embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back," he said. "There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."

Cumulus Media — the second-largest radio chain — has since sent out a directive to the program directors of all of its 400-plus stations that was titled: "MORGAN WALLEN — EXTREMELY IMPORTANT."

"Team, unfortunately country music star Morgan Wallen was captured on video Sunday evening using a racial slur," the message read. "Effective immediately we request that all of Morgan Wallen's music be removed from our playlists without exception. More to follow." 

Wallen's Dangerous: The Double Album release is about to set a record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 — which hasn't been seen since Garth Brooks in the late ’90s — after being at the top of Billboard 200 for the third week in a row. However, other radio stations are expected to follow Cumulus Media's initiative and place at least a temporary ban on Wallen's tracks. 

iHeartMedia, which owns 800 stations, has also removed Wallen's tunes. "In light of Morgan Wallen’s recent actions involving the use of a racial slur, we have made the decision to remove his music and content from our stations effective immediately," a spokesperson told Rolling Stone. 

As of Wednesday morning, Wallen's songs are also absent from Apple Music’s flagship country playlist, Today’s Country, and Spotify’s Hot Country Songs.

This isn't the first time Wallen, 27, has been caught up in controversy. In October, he was disinvited from Saturday Night Live after he attended a crowded party in Alabama and was seen kissing several women in a video. At the time, Wallen apologized for his actions and admitted his decision to party amid the ongoing pandemic was "pretty short-sighted." He was invited back to the show two months later — where he even starred in a skit about his controversial partying.

Unfortunately, Wallen's poor choices didn't start there. Back in 2012, the "Somebody's Problem" singer — who was 18 at the time — tweeted the lyrics to one of Meek Mill's songs, writing: "I burn bread i aint talkin toast n*****."

Since Wallen's recent scandal, other country stars have spoken out against the singer and explained Wallen's actions do not represent the world of country.
