NEWSNashville's NAACP Invites Morgan Wallen For 'Conversation' After Spewing 'Venom,' Singer No Longer Eligible For ACM Awards
While everyone seems to be turning their back on disgraced Morgan Wallen — especially after he was caught using the N-word on video — Nashville's NAACP is still holding out hope that the singer will change his ways.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People extended an invite to the country pariah — just days after his record label, Big Loud, suspended him indefinitely and hundreds of radio stations pulled his songs.
Nashville NAACP President Sheryl Guinn explained that they are willing to discuss the incident with Wallen and educate him on why the racial slur is so offensive.
"Even when you look at the other words that were spoken, that one has a certain venom to it that the words just don’t have," Guinn said. "Because he was such a prominent celebrity and an artist here in Nashville – I mean he's living here – we would love for him to have that conversation with us."
Since the controversial video made headlines, iHeartMedia and Cumulus Media — the two biggest radio station groups in the U.S. — Country Music Television, Apple Music’s flagship country playlist, Today’s Country and Spotify’s Hot Country Songs have all pulled Wallen's tunes.
Then, on Wednesday, February 3, the American Country Music awards also announced that Wallen, 27 — who won "Best New Artist" last year — has been disqualified from performing and receiving any recognition in the upcoming awards show.
"The Academy of Country Music will halt Morgan Wallen’s potential involvement and eligibility for this year's 56th Academy of Country Music Awards cycle," the statement read. "The Academy does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn’t align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion." The Academy will also strip all of Wallen's digital content from their website.

Wallen made headlines this week after a neighbor recorded the country star coming home with a group of friends after a night out in Nashville on Sunday, January 31. As OK! previously reported, the neighbor recorded the group because they were being very loud and rowdy in the middle of the night.
In the clip, which was obtained by TMZ, the "Wasted On You" crooner can be heard shouting: "Take care of this "p****-ass motherf**ker" to his friends before adding: "Take care of this p****-ass n*****."
"I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back," Wallen said in a statement after the incident. "There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."
He has yet to respond to NAACP's invitation for a conversation, which was first reported by WSMV.
