The Unknown Story Of 'The Fast & The Furious' Is Profiled In REELZ Documentary
Want the inside scoop when it comes to the many secrets behind the making of Hollywood’s multi-billion dollar Fast & Furious franchise?
REELZ sits down with the film's original stars, including the late Paul Walker, and acclaimed director Rob Cohen, who reflect on how this action-packed box office sensation shot to fame, leading to more than ten sequels and spin-offs, as it continues to change the lives and careers of the Fast family forever.
The original concept for The Fast and the Furious was inspired by an article about illegal street racing. Writer Kenneth Li penned a story titled "Racer X" in 1998 for Vibe Magazine about a real-life Dominican drag racer, and before he knew it, Li was fielding calls from Hollywood.
Soon after its release, the movie and many members of its cast — including Walker, who was a little known actor at the time — shot to stardom, as it became one of the most lucrative movie franchises worldwide.
"This is a no brainer. Get the girl, got the gun, fast cars, undercover cop, you're directing... I'm in," Cohen recalls of Walker's response when he approached him for the lead role. "I know what you're gonna do with this and I want to be part of it."
“Fast & The Furious: The Unknown Story” takes a deep dive into the early days of what eventually evolved into a blockbuster hit series that launched countless merchandise, theme park attractions — most famously at Universal Studios Hollywood — and a massive resurgence in racing and car culture.
Even after the tragic death of its star, Fast & Furious shows no signs of stopping its world domination as a multi-billion-dollar movie franchise and cultural phenomena.
