Raising Hell: Rapper Lil Nas X Sparks New Controversy With T-Shirt Line Following 'Satan Shoes' Back Lash
Lil Nas X is at it again. Following his controversial "Satan Shoes," the rapper is raising hell with a new line of T-shirts mocking the fever that surrounded the release of his latest music video for song, "Montero."
The 22-year-old has teamed up with Pizzaslime to launch three tees which retails for $33 each. One reads: “I watched the ‘Montero’ video by Lil Nas X and all I got was this lousy shirt and now I’m also gay and love Satan.”
Another reads: “I [Heart] Jesus, and that one part in the ‘Montero’ music video by Lil Nas X when he gets nasty with the devil because it was a cool form of self-expression and art."
Back in March, Lil Nas sparked outrage released his own version of Nike’s classic Air Max ’97 sneakers, featuring the symbol “x/666,” red ink and a single drop of human blood.
The $1,018 "Satan Shoes," made in collaboration with the company MSCHF, also had a Bible scripture from Luke 10:18 emblazoned on them, referencing Satan’s banishment from heaven. The verse reads: "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." They also featured a bronze pentagram and an inverted cross.
But Nike made it clear that the shoes has nothing to do with them. “We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF,” the company said in a statement. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”
The shoes coincided with the release of his wildly fabulous music video for his single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”
In the video, the openly gay musician is seen in many different mythical worlds inspired by history, including a full-on make-out sesh with an alien version of himself, a Marie Antoinette-inspired stoning, and a fiery lap dance with the devil before he gets his violent due.
