As the saying goes, the first movie in this Jurassic franchise began as “an adventure 65 million years in the making.” Helmed by directorial legend Steven Spielberg, the hit dino flick that expertly combined action, horror and science fiction made its debut in 1993.
Jurassic Park and the blockbuster sequels that followed have since been some of the highest-grossing movies in Hollywood history.

Well known for its technological strides in making the distinct and realistic animatronic dinosaurs seemingly come to life on the big screen, the franchise continues to grow above and beyond almost anyone’s imagination with its special effects.
A brand-new chapter in the Jurassic franchise is set for release in the summer of 2022. REELZ takes a deep dive into the first movie that started the worldwide phenomenon as fans prepare to celebrate its upcoming 30th anniversary.
"Jurassic Park is about playing God," editor Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com explains. "It's about bringing something back to life that you shouldn't necessarily bring back to life. It follows that long lineage of films that just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it."
